LaLiga EA Sports continues with the 21st day of the championship, after a week in which the Spanish Super Cup was played in Saudi Arabia and four Spanish teams were unable to see activity in the championship competition. Real Madrid, who will be leader in the event of victory in their next match, resumes La Liga against the Almeria team, last at the Santiago Bernabéu. For its part, Girona receives Sevilla in Montilivi, after the Catalans lost points the day before. Barça visits Betis and Atlético de Madrid visits Granada.
Below are all the matches from matchday 21 of LaLiga EA Sports:
Alavés – Cádiz (1-0)
LaLiga EA Sports business day twenty-one
Deportivo Alavés beat Cádiz in a match without ideas from the yellows. Cádiz finds itself with 15 relegation points and Sergio González on the brink of the abyss, while those of Mendizorroza, with their second consecutive victory, rank twelfth in the standings with 23 points.
Rayo Vallecano – Las Palmas (Saturday January 20 at 2:00 p.m./DAZN)
LaLiga EA Sports business day twenty-one
This week, Rayo Vallecano meets UD Las Palmas, after the Madrid team had no activity the day before because their rival, Atleti, was playing in the Super Cup. The Canaries will look to take advantage of their opponent’s lack of pace and continue to consolidate themselves as one of the revelation teams this season. García Pimienta’s side have just beaten Villarreal in Gran Canaria and are aiming for one more victory, which will put them fully in the fight for European places.
Villarreal – Mallorca (Saturday January 2 at 4:15 p.m./Movistar)
LaLiga EA Sports business day twenty-one
Villarreal will look to get out of the bad times they are going through by hosting Mallorca this Saturday. Marcelino’s side have barely managed to take three points from their last five league matches, a poor haul which leaves them fifteenth in the table. For its part, Mallorca, who also live at the bottom of the standings, have just qualified for the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, which Javier Aguirre’s men will try to turn into a morale boost for La Liga.
Valencia – Athletic Bilbao (Saturday January 20 at 6:30 p.m./DAZN)
LaLiga EA Sports business day twenty-one
Valencia hosts Athletic Bilbao at Mestalla. Rubén Baraja’s team is aware that there is still a long season ahead of them and knows that they can still dream of European places. For this, direct duels, like the one this Saturday, are crucial. Athletic Bilbao arrives at a sweet time of the season. Those led by Ernesto Valverde have accumulated six consecutive victories in all competitions, including the Copa del Rey match against Alavés, when Los Leones secured their ticket to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Celta de Vigo – Real Sociedad (Saturday January 20 at 9:00 p.m./Movistar)
LaLiga EA Sports business day twenty-one
It hasn’t been long since Celta left the relegation zone and Rafa Benítez’s men intend to stay there until the end of the season. Real Sociedad, for its part, aims to compete for European places. The Txuri Urdin have just suffered a hard blow by losing to Athletic in the Basque derby and will have to wash their wounds to continue aiming for the heights. Imanol Alguacil’s side are on a four-match winless run in La Liga and are starting to fall behind Real in the standings.
Osasuna – Getafe (Sunday January 21 at 2:00 p.m./Movistar)
LaLiga EA Sports business day twenty-one
Osasuna hosts Getafe in a direct mid-table duel. Both teams are in the doldrums after being eliminated in the Copa del Rey and will look to get back to winning ways this Sunday. Osasuna saw their cup aspirations perish against Real Sociedad at El Sadar and Getafe were beaten by Sevilla at the Colosseum.
Real Madrid – Almería (Sunday January 21 at 4:15 p.m./DAZN)
LaLiga EA Sports business day twenty-one
Real Madrid face Almería in what will be a crossroads at both ends of the table. While the Whites fight for the league title, the Andalusians still don’t know what winning means this season. One factor that could work in Almería’s favor is the physical wear and tear of the Whites, which comes after an intense week of high-profile matches, including extra time against Atleti in the Super Cup semi-final.
Betis – Barcelona (Sunday January 21 at 6:30 p.m./Movistar)
LaLiga EA Sports business day twenty-one
Betis honors FC Barcelona which is going through a difficult period of the season. Xavi’s side have just been beaten in the Super Cup final, but before that, the Blaugrana had already revealed their weaknesses in previous matches. On the other side there will be a Betic team that is also not going through a good time in terms of play. Those led by Manuel Pellegrini arrive after beating Granada at home, but before that the Verdiblancos had played six games without winning all competitions.
Girona – Seville (Sunday January 21 at 9:00 p.m./DAZN)
LaLiga EA Sports business day twenty-one
The day before, Girona had equalized against Almería and had one of their worst matches of the season. Michel’s men will try to get back on their feet this Sunday by hosting Sevilla, a team which is going through a difficult period in La Liga, but which returns with a smile in the Copa del Rey against Getafe. The Sevilla team, seventeenth in the standings, just one point behind Cádiz, will be looking for a victory that will move them a little further away from the relegation places.
Granada – Atlético de Madrid (Monday January 22 at 9:00 p.m./Movistar)
LaLiga EA Sports business day twenty-one
Granada hosts Atlético de Madrid at Los Cármenes. The colchoneros have just lost their last league match against Girona, a defeat which dropped them to fifth position, outside the Champions zone. This is why Atleti will be looking for a victory that can put them back in the fight for the top four places. On the other hand, Granada will try to surprise and obtain three points that will help them in the fight for permanence.
