Von der Leyen formalizes his desire to continue leading the European Commission for a second term | International

Ursula von der Leyen wants to continue leading the European Commission. This was communicated on Monday by the steering committee of her party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of Germany, which will unanimously propose her as head of the list of the European political family. The European People’s Party (EPP) must now formalize its candidacy at a congress in March.

“Europe is my home for me, as is Lower Saxony (the German state where I come from). And when the question arose at the time whether I could imagine becoming President of the European Commission, I immediately answered yes. Today, five years later, I am making a very conscious and carefully considered decision,” Von der Leyen said after the Berlin meeting.

“I would like to run for a second term and I am very grateful to the CDU for nominating me today as the lead candidate of the EPP,” she added.
