Carlos Sainz has to undergo surgery for appendicitis and misses the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix | Formula 1 | Sports

There is no peace for Carlos Sainz, who discovered this winter that Ferrari was not going to renew his contract which expires at the end of the year, and that this Friday he will have to get out of the car without facing the timing the second stop of the year, in Saudi Arabia, due to appendicitis which will require surgery. The Ferrari driver from Madrid, who last week, in the first of the World Championship held in Bahrain, managed to climb to third place on the podium, after the two Red Bulls, will be replaced on the Jeddah circuit by Oliver Bearman .

This will be the debut in Formula 1 of the young 18-year-old British driver, who is part of the youth team of the “Scuderia” – Ferrari Drivers Academy – and who this weekend was on the Saudi track, competing with Prema . , the team with which he faces the Formula 2 championship and with whom this Thursday he won pole position. Last year, the boy already took part in two free rehearsal sessions (Mexico and Abu Dhabi), driving a Haas, a team powered by the Maranello brand. The regulations prohibit a rider from participating in the same event in both categories, a circumstance which forced the Italian team to withdraw him. Bearman will now board the SF-24 during the third free practice session this afternoon, before the qualifying session, scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (Dazn).

The appendicitis which forced Sainz to get out of the car has already prevented him from participating in Wednesday’s media interventions. The next day, the Spaniard finished seventh in the standings after the first two practices in Jeddah. But when he got out of the car, he didn’t respond to reporters either.

“I am happy to have been able to complete the program planned for this Thursday. But it was without a doubt one of my toughest days since I’ve been in F1. Especially due to the demands of the G forces,” admitted Sainz.
