Robles promises Ukrainian ambassador that Spain will maintain its support “as long as it takes” | International
The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, chaired this Saturday at the Infantry Academy (Toledo) a tribute to the civilian and military victims of the war in Ukraine, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the Russian invasion. The academy is the headquarters of the Toledo Training Coordination Center (TTCC), where 4,000 Ukrainians have received military training, 10% of those who have done so across the EU, many of whom have already fallen on the front line. Robles was accompanied by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Spain, Serhii Pohoreltsev, and the Chief of Defense Staff, Admiral General Teodoro López Calderón.
The minister assured that Spain was “more united than ever with Ukraine” and that it would support it “as long as necessary” to “win this absurd and cruel war and this unacceptable attack by Putin.” For his part, the Ukrainian ambassador thanked the Spanish people and their government for their support. “For us it is very important to feel and have the moral and military support of European countries. We will win, but it will be because of your support,” he said.
In the courtyard of the academy, he formed an honorary company composed of the King’s Immemorial Regiment, the barracks music orchestra and the Ukrainian contingent undergoing training. After the offering of a laurel wreath in memory of the deceased, a Catholic priest and an Orthodox priest read a prayer.
